Welcome to Elwood's Boxers

We are Todd and Gwen Stott .  We are Boxer lovers.  We especially admire the German-European Boxer for its beauty, brains AND brawn.    Our passion for Boxers originated in 1990 when Todd acquired a handsome pup which he named Elwood.  Elwood was the epitome of intelligence and personality.  His size and features were much like the European Boxer type.  For awhile it was just Todd and Elwood, the two bachelors.  When Gwen entered their lives, it was love at first sight for Gwen -- with Elwood!  Todd thought Elwood had run Gwen off, but it was just the opposite!  His manner and good looks were deadly to the heart and Gwen was instantly in love with a Boxer.   Todd started to grow on her as well and after they were married, a baby was not far behind (Boxer, that is).  Phoebe was Todd's wedding present to Gwen and she became her constant companion.  Phoebe was beautiful,  loyal, protective, naughty and INTELLIGENT!!   Although she bore no flash on the outside, she had abundant flash on the inside!   She intimidated every delivery person who came on our property!  Some would no longer come to the front door, but leave their delivery at the garage.  Although there was not a mean bone in her body (our children could lay on her), strangers were not to be tolerated!   Then in 2000 came Hoover.  He was the perfect young man for a family with young children.  As crawling babies and toddlers, our girls laid on him, stepped on him, rode him like a pony, crawled over him, pulled his ears and he patiently endured every minute of it.  He was our gentle giant!

In the summer of 2009, we found ourselves with just Hoover.  We were heartbroken over the recent loss of Phoebe never having fully recovered from losing Elwood in 2003.  We had to have another Boxer and so the search began which  led us across the Atlantic Ocean to Vince and Kristian Kallai at Chris Boxers in Hungary and a young beauty named Chris Xena, daughter of the multi champion Hiram Optima Grata.   On August 13, 2009, Xena arrived and before she was even out of the crate she was shipped in,  we couldn't believe the beauty.  We have  yet to capture the fullness of her beauty  on camera.  Xena also has a very big personality!!  We frequently feel as though it is Xena who owns us.  We were so impressed by Xena's  beauty, personality, and structure that we knew we had to have another.  This time  our search ended in the Netherlands at Boxer fan't Suderein and a stunning black beauty named Caitlin Fan't Suderein, daughter of Future vom German Dream.  What a sweet, bundle of black brindle beauty!!   She is quite the "Dutch Diva" as Sietie, her breeder, has since nicknamed her.  Her conformation and unusual extreme reverse brindle coloring not to mention the big brown eyes that she is so adept at batting  are a phenomenal package all wrapped into one precious girl!   But don't let the good looks fool you, she can be fierce when she thinks she needs to, and yet she lives, plays and sleeps with our children like she is one of them.   Thank you Sietie for taking a risk on us and letting us have Caitlin.

The summer of 2010 was spent in a diligent search for the right male to add to our breeding program.  We are thrilled to introduce the XY factor,    Veni, son of the magnificent Zorro de Los Morritos.  He astounds us every day with how beautifully he is developing.  We couldn't have asked for a nicer boy to bring to the USA.   We have very high hopes for him so look for frequent updates in the future.

Throughout our nineteen years with Boxers, we have learned much about their temperament and their health including the diseases which are unfortunately very predominant in the breed.   In December 2009 we experienced another devastating loss when "Pearl", my mother's beloved American Boxer had to be euthanized because of renal failure resulting from JRD (Juvenile Renal Dysplasia).  Unfotunately, JRD is a disease spreading throughout the Boxer population DESPITE the existence of a DNA test.  You can read Pearl's story "Diary of a JRD Dog" at Dogenes website (click on "Renal Dysplasia Information" and then "RD stories from owners and Breeders: SHARING IS BELEIVING!"  We believe that all Boxers who are going to be bred should be tested for this wretched disease to prevent it spreading further into the Boxer population.  Unfortunately, not many breeders are testing for this insidious disease.  Consequently, we have become passionate about preventing JRD and any other avoidable disease through breeding healthy, strong, yet beautiful Boxers.

Philosophy

Breeding is much more than combining the DNA of two champion dogs.  It requires careful consideration, difficult decisions, a lot of hard work, expense and sacrifice.  Responsible breeding begins with the proper rearing of the breeding stock (commonly referred to as our babies) from puppyhood to adulthood with  proper nutrition, socialization, attention, affection and discipline.  For these reasons (and many more), we have made the conscious decision that we will only  breed 1 to 2 carefully planned litters each year in order to ensure the highest quality and level of care for our beloved dogs and our future babies.  Our primary goal is to breed and raise the highest quality, healthiest puppies possible.  We are not interested in quantity, but desire high-quality and health foremost.  We choose for our dogs to live in our house with us (we have no kennels) and to feed a BARF diet.  For us, it is the only choice.  We enjoy our dogs immensely and so we want them with us.  We love this breed, we enjoy their companionship and consider them part of our family.  Although the BARF diet is far more work for us and sometimes we wish all we had to do was dig into a bag of dry dog food, the extra work is a labor of love and we are reaping great results.  Consequently, this lifestyle for our dogs, which we feel is essential for their longevity and good health (not to mention  good breeding), necessarily precludes us from having a large number of dogs.  12 dogs in the house is not possible for us.  So, we have carefully chosen "A Few Good".... Bloodlines  from which we hope to contribute to the improvement in the health, temperament and conformation of this magnificent  breed.

All of our fabulous Boxers are hand selected from the highest quality lines available in Europe. Their pedigrees includes outstanding champions such as:   Ego de Joanxichcan, Ago del Colle dell'Infinito, Perico du Val d'Europe, Hiram Optima Grata.  Future vom German Dream,  Franklin- Django v.d. Matenhof,  Carmondene Gerino, Zorro de los Morritos, Thor de Borelcan, Excalibur de los Morritos and Saverio di Soragna,  and Plato v.d. Hazenberg.  We are very excited to have the opportunity to bring these important bloodlines to the U.S.  We look forward to a bright future with our young ones.

In 2012, we embarked on a new adventure with our Boxers when we joined the Fayetteville Schutzhund Club and began training.  What fun to work with our dogs in the very activities for which they were bred.  We have a newfound respect for the intelligence and loyalty of the Boxer breed.  Although we are new to Schutzhund, we are enjoying every minute of the time spent with our Boxers in training and the time with fellow working dog enthusiasts.  We hope that in 2012, we will have good news from our first every trial.
